Discuss this complex issue of the Danish Cartoons Satire of Mohammed (Muhammed)

Muslims are offended by drawings of Mohammed. They consider it blasphemy. Mohammed, in short, they believe was a prophet who took down the Koran from an angel. Islam started thereafter. He's not a god, but they do hold him in high reverence.

A Danish newspaper published cartoons depicting Mohammed satirically. Protests and death threats ensued. Other European newspapers published copies of the cartoons as support for the Danish paper.

The papers may have different motivations: sell papers, discuss free speech, or even insult Muslims on purpose. What has happened are riots, death threats, and controversary.

  • Freedom versus sensitivity
  • Religion vs secularism
  • Islam versus the west
  • Censorship versus free thought

Who is right? What is the right thing to do? Are the Muslims who are protesting this also ready to fight for the sensitivity toward Christianity in other countries? Are there comparisons to be made through history, or through other current events?

Avoid flaming.
