Who we areWe are a husband and wife team, Anthony and Aliz Trendl. He's an American writer who loves books, and loves his wife. She's a Hungarian originally from Pécs, Hungary, and she loves Hungary and her husband. We married in Budapest in 2004. Now, we live near Chicago. His family has deep roots in Hungary and the surrounding region, but he grew up in America's heartland.

He works most of the day for doing international communications consulting. Anthony is also a freelance writer, and he has also written over 750 reviews for Amazon.com, and is a published poet. Known in some circloes as a speechwriter. She works in finance at a major retail fiem while also helping lead the
Hungarian Women's Club of the Western Suburbs.

Read our engagement story, posted on Amazon. If it tickles you, feel free to read our wedding plans and such. You can see our picture there! Those pages are informal, with a few things undone, but it may help you plan your own Hungarian-American wedding.

Here's more on Anthony Trendl's reviews and what kinds of products he can review for you. If you would like to see his online resume, check that out as well. He manages his high school alumni discussion group as well: Alan B Shepard High School Class of 1985 Discussion Group and a group discussing Pope Benedict XVI. The Pope group is open to all. And, just for fun, follow is efforts to get back into fitness: A Runner's Dilemma: A runner takes to training after 22 years off. Or, just for kicks, see what's on his workout iPod. He also writes a popular weekly column for the Chicago Tribune's TribLocal, The Red Bandana: Finding Fitness Through the Joy of Running.
What is the Hungarian Bookstore? It is a virtual bookstore, existing for now only online. We search for the best products, from books to DVDs to travel deals and a lot in between. You'll find over 20,000 items listed here. Some are shipped directly from Budapest, while others are shipped from throughout the United States and UK. We are listed in the Library of Congress as a primary resource for Hungarian books, various universities, and on Hungarian cultural sites across the globe.

You also see a few pages with essays, tips and other interesting articles about Hungarian culture. That's a work in progress and our true passion. As we learn more, we add to the articles.
What's with the directories? That's how we started. Basically, he was dating Aliz and wanted to impress her by taking her to a Hungarian restaurant. Finding his search for one difficult, he decided to put his research up on the web. That's how our state-by-state restaurant directory began. Likewise, he posted a listing of Hungarian churches he found, followed by grocery stores and social groups. There is even a directory for Hungarian doctors in the USA. We are always looking to expand on these, so feel free to let us know if there's someplace we should be listing but aren't. If you manage a business that caters to Hungarian people, culture or language, let us know so we can list you. Listings are free.

In order to pay for the web space, we decided to sell a few books. A few books turned into a few more, and next thing we knew, we had over a hundred pages.
Are purchase secure?

Yes! All of your transactions are secure. We use only the most trusted vendors, including Amazon, Libri, Wal-Mart, Office Depot and many other familiar names. They process your orders, not us. We never know who bought what, only that someone bought a book or CD.

You can read our privacy statement here.

Contact Us Where's our phone number and address? We're virtual. This means, there is no physical store to visit. We'd love to list our home address, but, believe or not, a few people have called looking for "our store". This saves us both confusion.

You can contact us in English or Hungarian. We'll try to get back to as soon as we can, but please be patient with us. Sometimes, we are still searching for the book you are looking for, or stuck in a restaurant eating langos. :)

Best way to help us?

If you like what we're doing, or if you bought a book through us that reminded your grandmother of the old days:

  • Donate
Hey, search engine ads cost money. :) We advertise on the big ones. You might've even found us that way by searching.
  • Buy more books (always a great idea!)
We get reports for what books are bought, and try to list more just like them.
  • Tell your friends
    Especially bookworms.
  • Link our site (here's how)
Links help get the word out.
  • Support our sponsor's ads
You'll see ads from all kinds of places on our site. Click the ones you like. We use trusted vendors, and think you'll find what they are offering useful.
  • Take Your Friends to Hungarian Places
Try the restaurants you see here, and, of course, tell the place about us. Your friends will have a great meal, a fun time, and a culinary adventure.
  • Put up a notice in your restaurant or church
Where else is a good place to find other Hungarians but the places they go? A mention in the church bulletin is great. If you send us a copy, and we'll thank you in our church area.
  • Tell us about your church, restaurant, grocery store
If you manage a business that caters to Hungarian people, culture or language, let us know so we can list you. Listings are free.
  • Tell even more friends
Word of mouth is our best advertisement.
  • Thank us
Yes, yes, I know that sounds egotistical, but we really would like to hear what you like. It helps remind us all the sweat is worth it.
